The border is added outside the picture rather than drawn over it, so the canvas grows and no part of the original is covered. Border widths are in pixels of the source image, which means the same setting looks thinner on a large photo than on a small one — check the reported output size before printing. The polaroid style widens only the bottom edge, in the classic 1:1.2 proportion.
